A NOTE ON THE TELLING

The Quran anchors the message; later reports supply much of the life story. Imagined conversations and adapted reports are labeled as they appear. Muhammad remains off-screen.

ABOUT THIS TELLING

Scripture, memory, and imagination.

This 18-chapter film follows the broad traditional biography of Muhammad, from childhood in Mecca to his death in Medina. The Quran is not a continuous biography; the sources are therefore kept distinct.

Quran readings and paraphrases carry verse references. Dialogue attributed to Khadija and Waraqa is adapted from a hadith report. The other conversations are invented and labeled. Dates and details that remain uncertain are explained in each chapter’s source notes.

Muhammad, other prophets, God, and angels are neither depicted nor impersonated. The illustrated buildings, clothing, music, and English voices are contemporary artistic interpretations. This is a selective short film, with non-graphic discussion of warfare, killing, and enslavement.

The score can be switched off. It falls silent around the Quran readings and paraphrases. No recording of sacred recitation is used.
